Instruction

 Philosophy

As a dance instructor I seek to instill a love for movementmusic, and coordination while developing a proper technical foundation and artistry.

I believe that movement is intuitive to us all and that the desire and need to dance feeds the mind, body, and soul. No matter what the level or goal is for the student, dance is a direct way to express things words cannot.

With or without music, one can still dance. Students are encouraged to learn that whether they create the music or rhythm themselves or find it outside of themselves, they can use it as their tool to create movement.

Coordination is not only beautiful, it is useful. Dancers, no matter what the age or level of skill, are always working to improve their movement quality and find that it goes beyond the classroom mentally and physically.

Technique is the foundation. Without it the steps may have little value. I seek to instill and expand on a strong foundation of technique. The student’s understanding of the steps, their meaning, origin, and function are the best tools they can have.

Artistry is the love behind the technique. As an instructor I aim to bring out the joy of dancing that leads a student into the studio in the first place.

I try to enable my students to go beyond the classroom and stage to make dance a way of life.
